Quickstart highlights
Dosing & reconstitution guide
Standard protocol (1 mL = 10 IU/mL)
A 10 IU vial dissolved in 1 mL bacteriostatic water gives a concentration of 10 IU/mL. Calculate your own dilution →
Reconstitution steps
- Let the vial reach room temperature and wash your hands.
- Disinfect both rubber stoppers with an alcohol swab.
- Draw up 1 mL of bacteriostatic water.
- Inject the water slowly down the glass wall, not directly onto the powder.
- Swirl gently until clear — never shake.
- Label the vial with date and concentration and refrigerate.
Supplies needed
- HGH (somatropine) vial (10 IU)
- Bacteriostatic water
- Mixing syringe (1–3 mL) and U-100 insulin syringes
- Alcohol swabs and sharps container

Dosing protocol in research
| Phase | Dose | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Anti-aging (studies) | 1–2 IU | once daily |
| Body composition | 2–4 IU | once daily |

Storage instructions
- Lyophilised (powder): cool, dry and dark; long-term at −20 °C.
- After reconstitution: refrigerator at 2–8 °C, use within ~4 weeks.
- Avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
Important notes
- On the WADA prohibited list.
- Monitor IGF-1 and glucose periodically in research settings.
How this works
Somatropin is the synthetic version of the growth hormone produced by the pituitary gland. This peptide is composed of a specific sequence of 191 amino acids. Researchers study its role in physical recovery, cell growth, and metabolic processes.
HGH binds to specific receptors on cell surfaces, promoting the release of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) in the liver. It directly influences lipolysis by stimulating fat cells to break down their contents. Additionally, it promotes protein synthesis in muscles and bones. The half-life after injection is short, often less than thirty minutes, but the effects of IGF-1 release last longer. Unlike GH secretagogues like Ipamorelin, somatropin adds hormone directly rather than stimulating endogenous production.
Clinical studies on somatropin are extensive and have led to approval for treating growth hormone deficiency in children and adults. Research also focuses on applications for severe burns and muscle wasting due to chronic illness. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) lists it as a prohibited substance for athletes. Many questions remain regarding its effectiveness in healthy individuals without medical indication. Scientists are currently studying the long-term consequences of exogenous administration on natural hormonal balance.
Potential benefits & side effects
Effects described in research
- Increase in lean mass
- Reduction in visceral fat
- Support for bone and connective tissue
Common side effects
- Temporary water retention
- Tingling or numbness in the hands
- Injection-site redness
- Headache
- Insulin resistance at higher doses
- Carpal tunnel symptoms
Reported side effects in literature include edema, joint pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome due to fluid retention. High doses may decrease insulin sensitivity, affecting blood sugar levels. There is a lack of large-scale data regarding the risks of long-term use outside of medical settings.
Contraindications
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active or prior cancer
- Under 18 years of age
- Uncontrolled diabetes
Lifestyle factors
- Administration on an empty stomach (2 h after / 30 min before food) is most often described.
- Carbohydrates and fat around administration blunt the GH pulse.
- Adequate sleep supports natural nocturnal GH release.
Injection technique
- Choose a site with subcutaneous fat: abdomen (5 cm from the navel), thigh or back of upper arm.
- Disinfect, pinch a skin fold and insert at a 45–90° angle.
- Inject slowly, wait 5 seconds and withdraw.
- Rotate sites and use each needle once.
Recommended source
Quality varies widely between suppliers. Look for an independent HPLC/MS lab report per batch, purity ≥ 98% and clear storage and shipping conditions.
As a reference we use the HGH (somatropine) from PeptideWinkel, which publishes lab reports per batch.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert IU to milligrams?
The standard ratio is 3 IU per 1 mg of somatropin. Use our calculator for exact calculations in IU mode.
Is somatropin the same as HGH Frag 176-191?
No, somatropin is the complete 191-amino-acid molecule. Fragment 176-191 is only a small part specifically studied for fat burning without the systemic effects of the full hormone.
How should somatropin be stored?
Most forms of this hormone are sensitive to temperature and light. After reconstitution, it generally must be kept refrigerated between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius to maintain stability.
